We went on a mommy - son date to Monster Jam! It was a long but amazing day. Here are a few tips to make it special but manageable.

Location

I should preface all of this with the fact that we saw the show at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, CA. I would definitely read through the rules and regulations when you buy your tickets. Some of these tips may vary due to show venue. I did a lot of research before our big outing and everyone suggested getting there an hour early. We arrived about 30 minutes before the Pit Party started and that was more than enough, we were through the gates by 11:35. We went to a Sunday early show so that meant our Pit Party wats at 11:30 and our show "started" at 2:30. The show didn't actually start until after 3:00 so bare that in mind. My kid is not great with surprises so we told him the morning of so I could prep him all the way there.

Attire

I would definitely layer. We are in Southern California but it is mid-winter so it can get chilly in the evenings. You are also in full sun at the Pit Party so a hat is a must! Here are some options for the Megaladon lover;

Lunch/Snacks

If your kids are anything like mine, they need 500 snacks, especially on a long day out. I don't think there is any avoiding buying some junk but bringing your own snacks really limits it. Don't be fooled, we did indulge in a $30 slushie (it came with a Megaladon cup) and a $20 Monster Jam popcorn bag. We are trying to be more conscious about we put in our bodies, not to mention when are on a budget but you should indulge every now and again! I love a good snackle box but the containers are a bit small for us. I found the perfect one that fits two sandwiches and still has 5 compartments for sides and snacks (you can find that here). I jam backed it with fruit, veggies, pretzels and cheese. I added some Whiskware snack containers for grab and go treats while we were waiting in line. This was just enough to keep my little man happy and fed all day long.

Tailgate

There is a pretty big gap between the Pit Party and the show. We took this time to take a break at the car and grab our lunch. There are quite a few families that setup tables and chairs. Our venue opened early so we decided to take a potty break and head to our seats.

Final Thoughts

Make sure your little ones understand that it is a long day and there is a lot of waiting around. Be prepared with enough snacks and layers to deal with the weather. Bring some mini activities to fill the gaps between events. It is also a very expensive outing so make a plan as to whether you are going to budget or splurge on the day. All in all, it was a great day with my little man!
